Worst and most pathetic resort experience ever. Our 2-night stay at Mountain Retreat Resort by Hill Country, Ooty was a complete disappointment and nowhere close to the standards of a 4-star property. The management and service were extremely poor. During a power outage, the generator was not functioning and there was absolutely no response from reception or staff despite repeatedly calling multiple numbers. Imagine being left unattended in a “4-star” resort with no electricity and no support from management. The complimentary breakfast spread was equally disappointing. While the food tasted decent, the variety and quality were below even many 2-star hotels. On the second day, the chef assured us of a better spread, but it turned out to be worse than the first day. Basic items were served without proper accompaniments — upma without curry, aloo paratha with only curd and pickle. This is definitely not what anyone expects after paying premium resort prices. The entire stay felt badly managed, unprofessional, and not worth the money at all. The property may look good online, but the actual hospitality and guest experience are terrible. Would never visit again and strongly recommend others to avoid this place completely. Don’t waste your money, time, or holiday here. Pathetic property!
I recently stayed at this property and, unfortunately, my experience did not live up to the expectations of a 4-star hotel. The biggest advantage of this hotel is its location. The rooms are reasonably spacious and offer adequate space for a comfortable stay. However, beyond these positives, there are several areas that require significant improvement. The washrooms were particularly disappointing. They are quite small for a hotel in this category and appear outdated. A refurbishment of the bathrooms would greatly enhance the overall guest experience. The service was average at best. While the staff were polite and generally helpful, the level of hospitality and attentiveness did not reflect what one would typically expect from a 4-star property. The most disappointing aspect of the stay was the breakfast buffet. The spread was extremely limited, offering very little variety from both local and international cuisines. The quality of the food was ok. Among all the hotels I have stayed in ooty, this was one of the weakest breakfast experiences. Considering the room rates being charged, the overall value for money is poor. The facilities, maintenance standards, and food quality do not justify the price point. With upgrades to the washrooms, improvements in maintenance, and a significantly better breakfast offering, the property could provide a much better guest experience. Overall, while the location and room size are positives, the hotel falls short of the standards expected, making it difficult to recommend at its current pricing
Had a wonderful stay at Mountain Retreat Ooty by Hill Country. The biggest highlight of this property is undoubtedly its location. The view from the hotel is simply breathtaking—you get a panoramic view of the entire Ooty valley. Watching the clouds roll through the valley and over the hills was mesmerizing, and every moment spent there, felt peaceful and refreshing. If you're looking for a stay with incredible scenery, this place is hard to beat. The rooms were clean, comfortable, and well maintained. The staff was courteous, helpful, and always ready to assist, making the overall stay very pleasant. The only reason I'm giving 4 stars instead of 5 is the food. While the quality was good, I feel vegetarian and non-vegetarian food should ideally be prepared separately to better accommodate guests with different preferences. Overall, it was a memorable experience, and I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Ooty—especially if you want to wake up to one of the best valley views in town. The videos I've attached don't fully capture how beautiful it looks in person!
An excellent and peaceful place to stay! Everything about our time here was perfect. The rooms were cozy, clean, and very comfortable. The hospitality was top-notch, and the staff went out of their direction to make sure we had everything we needed. Great food, great service, and a beautiful location. Will definitely come back again!"
We stayed at Mountain Retreat, Ooty for 4 days with family and had a wonderful experience. The scenic views from the property were absolutely beautiful and very refreshing. The cottage setup is especially good for big families, as all the kids could stay together and have fun comfortably. The hospitality and service from every staff member was exceptional throughout our stay. A special mention to Mr. Basavaraj for his outstanding support even after we checked out. We had accidentally left some clothes behind and he ensured they were safely couriered back to us with great care and promptness. We truly appreciate his kindness, responsiveness and dedication. Such genuine service is rare to find. One suggestion for improvement would be to make the landscape more elderly-friendly, as there are quite a lot of steps and uneven pathways. Also, the breakfast buffet could be improved with more variety and better planning. Overall, it was a memorable stay and we sincerely thank the entire team for their warm hospitality.
One of the best resorts in Ooty. Before starting my detailed review, a very high level review - Ooty is a beautiful hill station, but in a highly commercialised hill station like Ooty, getting a panoramic & peaceful place is really challenging. In my past 2 visits I was staying in other resorts near Ooty lake where the view was though good but somehow I was missing the hill station feel. But this resort really made my trip enjoyable. Reached the resort around 5pm, our Valley view room was ready & in reception staffs were professional & friendly. Within a minute they completed our check in. Room : spacious & clean room ( geyser, room heater, kettle, mini fridge etc available). We booked for valley view room & view from the room was mesmerising. If they would have planned for a balcony in valley view room, that View : Ketty valley view was mesmerising, full of clouds and a wide variety of plantations. On day 2 we enjoyed the sunrise ( if you are staying here, don’t miss the sunrise view ). On day 3 it was full cloudy, a short morning walk in clouds with singing birds and beautiful flowers was super refreshing. Food : Now coming to the best part of our stay. A big shout out for Mr Ran
